Using the WVU Logotype vs. Department Wordmarks

WVU Logotype

Purpose

The WVU Logotype is a formal visual representation the University.

When to Use

  • Print materials: academic brochures, flyers and official University publications.
  • Web and digital platforms: departmental websites, online reports, and academic presentations.
  • Academic apparel: This is difficult to embroider, so we do not recommend using this. If you choose to use this on apparel, we highly recommend that it is screen printed.
  • Promotional product: Recommended for a more formal use.

Notes

  • Always use the official, approved version of your department’s logotype — do not alter, stretch, or modify it.

Department Wordmarks

Purpose

Department wordmarks provide a distinct identity for individual colleges, schools, and units within WVU.

When to Use

  • Apparel: The wordmark’s bolder design ensures stronger visibility.
  • Promotional products: giveaways, displays, and marketing.
  • Digital: social media

Notes

  • Always use the official, approved version of your department’s wordmark — do not alter, stretch, or modify it.
